Our final outing of the 07-08 year was to RocStock in the Mojave Desert at Lucerne Dry LakeWe wanted to see the night launches so we decided to camp overnight FridayThe first order of business was to put up the tent in 100 degree weatherThen we had lunch but we had to quickly eat our sandwiches before they dried outIt was so windy they closed the range - no launches - the heat is exhausting so this member decided to take a napPassing the time with Rubic's cube - you can pass a lot of time that wayThe porta-potties seemed to be a mile a way when you needed themAs we waited for the night launches we decided to play some gamesDominoes were funFinally the launches begin - this engine is called a "Redline" and was quite spectacularThis is what a "regular" engine looks like at nightQuite appropriately, this engine is called "Mojave Green"The launches started after dark at 9PMand they ended at 11PMThe guys got the back of the truckand the girls got the tent with the air mattresses! The Good Morning Lucerne! call announcing the range is open at 7AM is still 2 hours awayBut the sunrise was worth watching
