OABB Rocketry Project 2007-2008

Our final outing of the 07-08 year was to RocStock in the Mojave Desert at Lucerne Dry Lake

We wanted to see the night launches so we decided to camp overnight Friday

The first order of business was to put up the tent in 100 degree weather

Then we had lunch but we had to quickly eat our sandwiches before they dried out

It was so windy they closed the range - no launches - the heat is exhausting so this member decided to take a nap

Passing the time with Rubic's cube - you can pass a lot of time that way

The porta-potties seemed to be a mile a way when you needed them

As we waited for the night launches we decided to play some games

Dominoes were fun

Finally the launches begin - this engine is called a "Redline" and was quite spectacular

Quite appropriately, this engine is called "Mojave Green"

The launches started after dark at 9PM

and they ended at 11PM

The guys got the back of the truck

and the girls got the tent with the air mattresses!

The Good Morning Lucerne! call announcing the range is open at 7AM is still 2 hours away

But the sunrise was worth watching

Not all rockets are long skinny things with fins - this one was a giant basketball

We were going to shoot off our own rockets but it was so hot

We decided to sit in our chairs in the shade and watch

Everyone still had a lot of fun - and the night launches were spectacular - everyone wants to go again
